As part of this years Dublin Horse Show the RDS Library are running an exhibition of archive photography from previous Horse Shows. To commemorate this they have printed a great series of 5 Black and White A5 greeting cards with us. They capture the atmosphere of events from times gone bye. So if you are attending the Horse Show drop into the Library, see the exhibition and pick up a card or two. It runs from the 5th-9th of August.

Celebrating Julius Shulman Architectural Photographer par excellence
The American photographer Julius Shulman passed away this month at the age of 98. Fastcompany have put together a short slideshow of some of his wonderful work. Enjoy and appreciate his vision, skill and artistry. The photo of the Kaufman House ( above) taken in Palm Springs 1947 is my favourite. There is a new documentary on his life and work which is be released in October. www.juliusshulmanfilm.com

AIR Artist Exhibition

Recent AIR artist Paul McCarthy whose work Na Caipini is being shown as large format pieces in their native County Kerry.
Na Caipíní is an exhibition of portraits, beautifully printed as large scale murals, that explores the passing realities of life and the continuing cultural traditions of West Kerry from a contemporary perspective.
The people in the series represent an unbroken line in the life and culture of Corca Duibhne. While they have lived and worked and enjoyed their language and music in the ʻOld Styleʼ, the
generations that have followed them have had to balance this heritage with the demands of the modern world.
The series was created in conjunction with a recording made by Brenndaín O Beaglaoich of singers and musicians of Corca Duibhne. The men of this generation are the last of the Caipíní, the last for whom the wearing of a cap was an everyday essential and the last to experience life as it was lived for generations past.
This yearʼs renovation of the old school house in Cuas (Seanscoil an Chuasa – opened 17/7/09 by Minister Oʼ Cuiv), on the Dingle Peninsula, at the last cross-roads before Brandonʼs Creek, gives this project an excellent gallery space and a perfect spiritual and physical starting point.
Cuas – Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry, about 15 minutes drive from Dingle Town 2nd to 21st August 2009 Daily from 1pm until 6 pm

Photo Espana
The Photo Espana festival of photography is entering its last 10 days. There is always a good reason to visit Madrid and this exhibition adds to the compiling list. Alas it will not be this year. So it remains on our to do list, in the meantime we have to content ourselves by experiencing it online.

Humour for friday: Photoshop disasters
My my what a big hand you have Mariah!Found this site earlier and it is hilarious. Photoshop disasters is a blog dedicated to exactly what you would expect. The best part is that all the images submitted are commercial which means that these images were butchered by designers that should know better!
